    Yup. Outdid his idol Stalin.

Back in the early '80s, China was slowly opening to the rest of the world and started sending some of their scientists to Western Labs to train and work. We had one fellow join our lab at Columbia who had formerly been the Chairman of the Dept of Physics at the U. Of Beijing. He didn't say much always fearing he was being spied on. One time he let his guard down and said, "I was the lucky one. They only burned my books. They sent the rest of my department to the collective farms."

Later on, we had another "so-called" Doctor from China join our lab and work with my colleague in Genetics. Turns out she was no doctor. She was just someone they showed how to use a hypodermic syringe and sent out to the countryside to give shots.

I will never forget those experience til the day I die!
Mao Zedong's Great Leap Forward was the biggest episode of mass murder in the history of the world. But it rarely gets the recognition it deserves.

Nor do the Gulags. Murdered not because they were criminals, but because they failed sufficiently to subjugate themselves to the State, the Party, aka the 'Collective'.
