So what brands do some like.
    Simgle malt or blended
neet , chilled stones or ice

for me single malt is great but you need to buy expensive stuff where blended is better drinks and can be had much cheaper.
Walksr as an example black is. It bad but if I go single malt it's triple in price for smoothness.
I like it neet and I guess this makes it a bit more expensive
    analog stuff.

Scotch...another taste sensation. Its a lot like high end stereo... Some people like Audio Research, some people like Ayre......I drink Macallan's mostly, but Black is fine.

Mc Kallen is a great single malt but to get it smooth you need atleast 18 year and that is expensive
plat blended is just as good for half the price and even the 25 years that is hundresds more is for me no better the blue
      analog stuff.

I prefer the intense peaty single malts from Islay such as Laphroig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin. I also like the sherry oak cask flavor of Macallan and the like.

I will admit single has more layers of flavors. And blended is more flat.

..just a suggestion.....add a very little bit of water....it opens up the flavor. At a restaurant, I ask for a straw, and with my finger closing the top end, I can lift that little bit.

I do that with less tasting scotch but never did it with good stuff. I have tried the cold stones that is nice and improves the flavors. Even a chilled glass also is nice.
              Thanks for the suggestion

Had a taste of AnCnoc Peter Arkle 3rd Edition at the LA Audio Show. Mighty fine stuff. Just need to find a bottle of it locally now. Laphroig Triple Wood or Quarter Cask are two of my favroties too. Also have a bottle of Balvanie 15 y.o. that is excellent. And a pinch of water does bring out the flavor and aroma in these quite nicely.

I've been getting myself a little more acquainted with some of the Glenmorangie family. Liking quite well The Signet and a 12 year old Sherry Cask is remarkable delightful IMHO despite it's "youth". I've also been quite pleased with the Balvenie 12 year old Double Wood. But then I got a taste of it's older brother, the 17 year old Double Wood. Damn!!!

Whether it's right or wrong I do prefer "chilled" (the stones work pretty good) and a "water back".

I don't think in terms of right or wrong it's why I posted this and love the replies. At 60 I am one to admit I learn as I go. Chilled glass or stones is best. A splash of water I have done because it came that way but I did not notice anything. But drinking with food is a waist of good scotch
wine is better with food as it blends in more.
